ReplyDeleteThat was a useful piece of information. When started out blogging, I was obsessed with Alexa rank. I tried various methods to bring it low, below 60k region. From my experiences, I learned some startling facts.
First of all, I say that Alexa can be easily manipulated. Like mentioned in the article, Alexa toolbar can play a crucial role in improving the ranks. It is this over-reliance of Alexa on these toolbars that can be exploited.
Let me give an example- a multi niche blog of mine, that gets about 600-800 visitors, which is 1 year old, has an Alexa rank around the 400k region. At the same time, a blogging related blog of mine, 3 months old, which gets just 300+ visitors each day, boast a rank touching 100k.
My point is that the blogging related blog used to get 'webmaster' traffic, who many times have the Alexa toolbar on their browsers. In the other blog's case, despite the high traffic, the visitors almost always didn't have the said toolbar. This is what is responsible for flawed ranking. I wholeheartedly agree that this toolbar can be exploited to see instant improvement :)
Updating one's blog regularly, injecting it with new, quality posts will certainly help improve the rankings. That too I've tried and tested.
I wasn't aware of this 'writing article about Alexa' thing. Well, it seems like an interesting strategy.
